Drop it in my Drop Box

I know!  I have been neglecting our Geeky Artsy Stuff blog lately...  Shame on me!  tish..tish!  Being overworked in my day life, didn't leave me much time to concentrate and write.

So, to go on living my Geeky Artsy life, I had to do more research, to keep people interested  for one,  also, to be able to share stuff with my Geeky Artsy friend.  I've learned lately about Drop Box, a way to drop pictures or other documents so you can be able to share them with someone you work with.  So, I tried it!   The moment you click on Drop Box, it gives you about 2GB of space on a server and when you invite someone, you get even more memory space!  As soon as your colleague uploads and work on the file, it updates your version automatically!  Perfect for partners that needs to work together on projects from different places!  The other thing I wanted to try to work with is LogMeIn.  Perfect in situations when you don't know how to do something on your computer and you have a friend that can!  A good thing when you're stuck and don't want to waist your entire day on.  Still waiting for the right moment to use it and will let you know as soon as i do!

Vive le 3D

This weekend I saw Toy story 3 (Pixar) and How to train your Dragon (Dreamworks). Phenomenal! Or écoeurant! as my Qc collegues would say;) I can't seem to get bored of the magic created on screen. As an artist, I've been following all the 3D motion pictures animations developed by these two titans. I compare these works to the great masterpieces in museums because they are the art form of our time. I'm as impressed as ever. Although sometimes I would tweak the story line as I always have a more feminist point of view... but hey! It still doesn't take away from the amazing work.

Créativité Gastronomique

Lorsque l’on parle de créativité, on peut aussi parler de Gastronomie.  Aujourd’hui, pour cuisiner des petits plats pour la famille et les amis, on se doit de faire preuve d’imagination, donc de jongler avec créativité et rapidité.  Bye bye Kraft Dinner et TV Dinners, bonjour les dépenses…euh, je veux dire bonjour le raffinement!   Je suis d’accord que parfois, nous n’avons pas le choix de combiner le  « prêt à manger » et le « fait sur mesure », étant donné que l’on doit prendre ce que nous avons sous la main dans le placard et que tout doit être prêt en temps record pour tous criant « famine! », mais lorsque l’on doit impressionner la galerie, certains outils peuvent être très pratiques. On s’entend sur le fait que nous n’avons pas toujours le temps ou les moyens de se permettre des leçons de cuisine.  Alors, lorsque mon amie Anne, Française d’origine mais québécoise dans l’âme (elle aime nos bancs de neige et pelleter…) m’a annoncé qu’elle allait sortir un blogue de cuisine, je me suis dit : « pu… que c’est génial! » (Aucun juron n’est admit, alors je censure!).  Elle a toujours su nous recevoir, à nous épater avec sa bonne bouffe, ses petits amuse-gueules, tout bien fait et remplissant parfaitement mon bedon de laine Québécois!  Foie gras et desserts fait maison à la Française!  Miam!  De plus, la cuisine française est maintenant inscrite au patrimoine culturel de l'humanité (voir : http://www.cyberpresse.ca/vivre/cuisine/201011/16/01-4343256-la-cuisine-francaise-inscrite-au-patrimoine-culturel-de-lhumanite.php)!  Comme je dis si bien : « rien de mieux qu’un sandwich Français fait par un vrai Français »!  Huhummm!  Elle m’a fait part de la date d’émission de son blogue de cuisine, qui selon moi n’est surtout pas à manquer, autour du 20 décembre 2010.  Elle a en plus un talent fou pour l’art littéraire et pour la photo, ce qui lui permet d’ajouter cette petite touche personnelle à ses œuvres, ce goût de saliver sur chacune des recettes affichées sur son blogue!  L’art de cuisiner, c’est l’art de recevoir!  Le lien sera affiché dès que ce sera disponible!  Après, il me restera tout simplement à la convaincre d’ajouter une touche québécoise, le sirop d’érable! Hi. Back into my million dollar book this week after attending the "Salon Du Livre" at Bonaventure on Saturday with my geeky colleague. It's easy to walk away inspired and defeated all at the same time. So much talent out there and often we feel like a tiny voice in a hurricane. Does anyone have advice on how to use seminars, conventions, exhibits or other blinding events as spurs in our arses and not wrenches in our wheels?

Designs from far away close to us

I know what you mean, so many beautiful designs are coming from our Eastern neighbours it's a challenge not to get seduced by lower quality items which are programmed to self destruct upon opening. I often wonder if they have the budgets to pay for the good designers or have gotten really good at copying. I'd like to post some pictures of fabric designs I came across in Macy's while on vacation in Florida this summer. They were so beautiful I thought I could base some paintings on them or inspire myself for innovative graphics. I actually wanted to make and album in FB but people would think I'd gone off the deep end.

Fashion & Design Made in China?

My Thumbs up:  Lately, I have been working on re-doing a king size duvet cover to match a custom made queen size.  I thought it would be nice to save money by buying one already made at a discount retail store, which will give me a very nice looking duvet cover at a really good price!  Looking on the label, it was made in China.  So, not a bad investment, not at all.  I've undone the sides to cut them, saved some pieces to add a tailored piece at the bottom, and finished it off by doing the same double stitching there was before.  Well, lets just say that it took me hours and hours of labour!  Made me think : How could it be done so nicely at such a low cost?  I imagine this Chinese person having to make hundreds of these in a day to get a good pay!  Really! at the speed I was going, my paycheck would've been reeaaally small... Can't say more than I'm very impressed!

My thumbs down: Just like everyone, I go out to do some shopping to buy clothes at the retail store.  Find nice shirts, rather expensive, but I have to look nice.  Look at the tags inside, made in China, OK.  After warring them 1 day, holes began to appear!  After, one delicate wash, they got even bigger!  Well, even if I would decide to go back at the store where I bought them, get in all this trouble to exchange them or get my money back, spend money on gas and stress like crazy because of this story, why wasn't it done the right way in the first place?  I totally understand the fact that a worker needs to make as many as possible to have a suitable (and I mean suitable...) paycheck at the end of the day, week or month, but holes in my new clothes???  

Well, it's a good thing I'm not too bad with a sewing machine, because now, I'm paying myself to redo my clothes at a turtle speed!  I can also say: "Look!  I've re-done my closet"!  Ah!  My sewing machine, my new best friend!

A first but not least

Here we are venturing on a new frontier; the web log. Expressing ourselves through paintings, textiles, poly-resin, or digital media is not enough. We also need to write about it and invite others to listen and share. Mostly, it's a way to track our progress on some very cool projects, stay motivated and chat about the interesting discoveries and constraints along this ride!

Welcome Geeky Artsy & other Stuff Fans!

Well, again, Welcome to you all!  We've decided to start this blog in honnor of all artists, designers, creative GEEKS of this world using THE machine, the computer!  The Artist that as been fogotten by it's peers, in the dark back corner of the office, slaving like crazy and forgetting that  HE IS afterall an artist! We are just starting this blog, so, be patient, it's a new discovery, a NEW FRONTIER for us!  It'll improve, you'll see!
